Diamond* Revives Classic Mixtape Culture With BLING SLIME VØL 1 Hosted By DJ Holiday
Atlanta rising star Diamond* is bringing back the energy of classic mixtape culture with his newest project, BLING SLIME VØL 1: HØSTED BY DJ HØLIDAY. The 11-track mixtape features appearances from Young Thug, Sk8star, Pz’, Lil Righteous, and Southsidesilhouette, while bringing back a sound and presentation style inspired by the early 2000s era of DJ hosted mixtapes.
The project arrives during a major year for Diamond*, who has continued building momentum alongside fellow YSL artist Tezzus. Earlier this year, the duo released their collaborative project UY SCUTI BØYZ, continuing their run as two of Atlanta’s most exciting underground voices. Having met Diamond* at Rolling Loud Orlando earlier this year I was eager to hear where he would take his sound next, and BLING SLIME VØL 1 delivers the next level.
Diamond* Brings Back the Classic DJ Hosted Mixtape Era
Before streaming dominated hip hop, mixtapes were often defined by the personalities hosting them. DJs like DJ Drama, DJ Holiday, and others became just as recognizable as the artists themselves, adding drops, commentary, and their own energy throughout projects.
With BLING SLIME VØL 1, Diamond* pays tribute to that era by bringing in DJ Holiday as the official host. The decision gives the project a nostalgic feel while connecting Diamond*’s underground sound with one of hip hop’s most important mixtape traditions.
Diamond* recreates the feeling of finding a new mixtape online in the early 2000s — complete with a recognizable DJ presence helping guide listeners through the project. Listener’s and fans can most recently compare the DJ pairing to fellow Atlanta legend Playboi Carti and his recent collaboration with DJ Swamp Izzo.

One of the biggest moments on the project comes from Young Thug’s appearance on “FØURS.” The collaboration continues Diamond*’s connection to the YSL ecosystem and adds another major feature to an already busy year for the Atlanta artist.
With Diamond* and Tezzus continuing to represent the next wave connected to YSL, their collective Øway , BLING SLIME VØL 1 feels like another step toward establishing their own lane within Atlanta’s evolving rap scene.

I had the opportunity to meet Diamond* at Rolling Loud Orlando earlier this year while doing media, and much like with Tezzus it’s been interesting to watch his growth firsthand. Diamond* was friendly and easy to talk to, and while we kept our conversation was brief I let him know he killed his set and was excited to see the future for him.
